Years in the industry: 44 years
Favourite places I have visited: Melbourne, Christchurch, Hong Kong, New York, Toronto and Mexico.
Personal life or travel experiences: Visiting the Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh, India, experiencing the luxurious Train Palace on Wheels, India. Travelling on safari in Ranthambore, India, my personal holidays involve a lot of ocean travel as I have a passion for backwater cruising. Seeing different ports every day, unpacking once and returning to the sanctuary of a beautiful houseboats at the end of day exploring to enjoy wonderful food and good company, it doesn’t get much better!
Places I love to sell: India, Nepal and Bhutan as they offer great value for money, you can do as much or as little as you like and they take the stress out of travel.
I was born in the remote mountain village of Gumdi in Dhading district of Nepal. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend Sarswati Multiple Campus in Kathmandu for my higher education. Like any average Nepali student of my age at the time. During my high school, I was in search of a job. Fortunately, I got a job of my interest i.e. in the field of travel and tours. My avidity for travelling has taken me on visits to various countries namely, U.K., Australia, Belgium, France, Hongkong, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and India. I can speak English, Nepali and Hindi as well. I constantly come up with different ideas to promote sustainable tourism in Nepal and also better the tourism business for Nepal as a whole.
Sharmin Afroze is based in Dhaka, Bangaldesh. With over 20 years of travel consulting in Bangladesh, she has seen many changes in the products we sell and the way we sell them. The early nineties saw the introduction of cheap and fast airline services to Bangladesh and international travel became accessible to all. Airlines schedules were to be found in phone book size directories which came out monthly and bookings were made by phone or telex. Today the changes in technology make it much easier to access information and services but the challenge is still there to create the right travel experience for each individual client.
I was born and raised in Lithuania and studied MA – European Tourism Management in Bournemouth university (UK). Having always had a passion to see the world, and through a set of very fortunate coincidences, I found myself involved in the travel industry. For the last 10 years I have led travel groups in various parts of India, Asia and other world countries. I have been associated with SGV since 2009 and enjoy exploring the world alongside those challenging themselves for tourism. It is hugely rewarding to see satisfied travelers who have enriched their lives with unforgettable experiences and new friendships. I speak English, Lithuanian, Russian, Spanish, some Italian and Arabic.
